View from our camp in Canmore, AB. We had a crystal clear creek right behind the unit. Canmore is close to Banff, just outside of the park. Very quaint town, lots of places to eat, with varied menus. We visited the shops at the end of the day, after we were tired from “exploring” the park.

Travelled the Trans-Canada Highway to Lake Louise. We arrived just before the hoards of people who come here. We arrived before 0800 and the shops in the Chateau Lake Louise Hotel were not open, but we really wanted time to view the lake, the gardens and the surroundings in relative solitude. By the time the shops opened, the tour busses had arrived and hikers (and I use that term very loosely) we on the move, swinging their walking sticks, most did not know to take off the rubber tips that were used for packing. It was a fun show to watch. Got a little too crowded so we moved on to nearby Moraine Lake.

Moraine Lake
After
Upon leaving Moraine Lake, we took the alternate road for the trek back to Canmore. We rounded a curve and saw a couple with cameras standing on the side of the road. As soon as I saw the tracks below, I knew what they were waiting for. Talked with a women who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad and she verified that a train was due in 15 minutes. We waited about 30 minutes before we got this shot. Railroads are never on time.

Saw this guy on the way back to Canmore . . . about a mile down the road from the railroad location above. He was too busy chomping berries to even notice us.

Next stop . . . Jasper National Park
Beautiful! Lake Louise has that amazing color.
