Retired and traveling, by motor coach, primarily within the road network of North America. Our first trip (2016) was for a period of about four months and included five Canadian provinces and seventeen states, including Alaska.
This Spring (2017) we traveled to Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Arkansas before making our way back to Georgia. I ran a marathon in Sedona (AZ), a 10 mile in Folsom (CA) and a 15 miler in Oklahoma City. We spent time with friends and relatives in TX and CA and traveled into Sedona with my sister (and her motorhome).
In the Fall of 2017, we traveled through the Northeastern states, spending a week or so visiting family in Connecticut, then five Canadian provinces, including Quebec, Ontario, PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, before returning through Michigan.
Our next journey, scheduled for Spring 2018, will take us back to the Southwestern states, and specifically to Furnace Creek to participate in the Death Valley Half Marathon. We will be traveling through Dallas on the way to Tuscon, then on to Furnace Creek Campground, “ground zero” for the run. We will be returning through Sedona/Flagstaff, then heading north to the Antelope Valley Ultra run before turning south to San Antonio and ultimately, home. This will be a relatively short trip as we are going “Out West” again in June.
Our plans for Summer 2018 will take us the Pacific Northwest and Colorado. Traveling different routes, we will go through Jackson, WY (Grand Teton 5K and Half Marathon) then on to West Yellowstone (Yellowstone 5K and Half Marathon) then into WA, via the resting place of Chief Joseph of the Nez Pierce, near the Grand Coulee Dam. Next will pass through the German town of Leavenworth, then south to Woodenville, home of the Chateau St. Michelle winery. We will then continue south to the Columbia River Gorge area and Multimoah Falls (OR) then on to Sunriver (near Bend) for a 28K trail run. Continuing south, we will visit Crater Lake, and Coos Bay, OR (the home of Steve Prefontaine), the Redwoods (CA), Lassen Volcanic National Park and the Central Valley in California. Leaving CA, we will spend a week in western Nevada then on to Moab (UT) and the Colorado Rockies, where we will run the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, then climb some of the 14,000+ ft mountains, and run the Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon. We will travel north to the Upper Peninsula region of Michigan, then Traverse City (Michelle) then over to Maine (Bar Harbor Half Marathon) before returning to the Grand Canyon for a Rim-to-Rim 26 mile trail run/climb. We will return to Braselton for a breather before the Atlanta 10 miler, then head north for the NY Marathon. After the Thanksgiving Half Marathon in Atlanta we will take it easy for the remainder of the year.
