Alaska 2025 – 09

We walked over to the Fireweed Community Market, held every Thursday, May through September in Whitehourse, Yukon. It was held in Shipyards Park at the north end of town and consisted of local crafts, locally grown products, food, music, arts and crafts, festivities and more.

A view, looking across the Yukon river from the park.

As you walked the loop of the park, you were serenaded by local talent, including these four, representing all ages.

After spending some time in the park, we decided to take a trip up to the top of Grey Mountain, which overlooks Whitehorse and dominates the landscape. The trail up was 4.6k long but had an elevation gain almost 1,494 m or 4,900 ft. We decided to take the 4×4 road to the top. The road was rough, as advertised, and we finally had to put the truck into 4WD to make some of the climbs. The distance via road was more than 15k. After enjoying the view, we started down, but the rain started and the rocks became slippery, making it slow going.

The view from the top was spectacular. We could see for at least 50 miles, all the way back to Lake Teslin, which we left the day before.
