Leaving the central Canadian provinces, we headed into Alberta to spend a couple of days near Jasper National Park.

After setting up in Hinton, we decided to take walk through ponds at the Beaver Boardwalk.

This area was donated to the city by the local lumber processing company and a lot of work has been done to preserve the natural habitat.

We walked on all of the raised boardwalks which go around the various ponds and through the forest.

There were some very picturesque viewpoints from the boardwalk but alas, we saw no beavers!

This is a beaver lodge in the middle of the pond. They enter from underwater and are well protected from other critters and the elements.
After reading these warnings, we decided to stay on the pond trails and not venture into the forest. There are a lot of new bicycle trails that have been added since our last visit. I believe that most of the beavers have migrated downstream as there a multiple sets of piling being set up going downstream which will support some new boardwalks to this area.
