Lassen National Park 2

We took an easy day and made the loop hike to Kings Falls, on Kings Creek.  We found this guy right away and managed to get pretty close.  We drove by the trailhead yesterday and decided that if we were going to make this hike, we would have to start early.  We don’t like crowds.  There were only a couple of cars in the parking area when we arrived.

Jason crossed the creek on an “improved” bridge. The logs were flattened on one side!

The falls were about 1.6 miles down into the canyon and were beautiful.  I climbed out on the rocks to get this shot (probably not very smart).  The viewing area with Jason and Cathy is about 20 feet above me.

We did take an alternate route on the return.  There were many cascades and smaller falls to enjoy.

This section of the trail was completed last year.  We talked with the trail crew  (over ice cream at the park store at Manzanita Lake) that assisted in its construction.  They were interested in our feedback, which of course was all positive.  They seemed to be a very motivated and sincere group, working ten hour days.  This particular cascade was several hundred feet in length.

Jason patiently waited for us on the way out.

Here is another of the many neat waterfalls/cascades on the way out.  If you returned on the original route, you would miss all of these.  The trail here was much steeper, but shorter in length. Very few people were attempting it.

Jason completed all of his projects and got “sworn in” by the Ranger.  He did not get to keep the hat though.  He has picked up a lot of information on this trip, hopefully he will remember most of it!

I think we finally wore him out!
