Prince Edward Island 1

After crossing the Confederation Bridge, connecting New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island (PEI), we set up the motor home then immediately began to explore the island.  Travelling east on the Points East Coastal Drive, we stopped at Wood Islands, terminus of the car ferry to Nova Scotia and found this local winery.  After Cathy tasted the wine, we decided on three samples, a dry red, a dry white and a sweet rose.  I had the red and white, Cathy preferred the rose.  The owner was an avid biker and hade been to Base Camp Everest, Machu Picchu, Lake Louise, and other exotic places.  He arrived by bicycle, stayed a few minutes,  then up and left, on his bike down a trail . .

Outside of the winery, Cathy played Dr. Doolittle and summoned the animals.  This is a Holstein goat (just kidding, but really?) that immediately came up.  He/she actually began chewing on my shirt . . .

It took a little coaxing, but Cathy finally befriended the local ass:

A group shot of the visitors:

My sister arrived on the Island in the late afternoon.  Her flight was delayed as there was a “cut fiber cable” somewhere that disrupted WiFi on all of the Maritime provinces and stopped air travel for several hours.

We were at Pt. Prim on the Northumberland Strait when Barbara called an told us she had landed on PEI.  It took almost an hour to get back to Charlottetown and pick her up. In the morning, we decided to return to Pt. Prim and see the lighthouse. There was a very interesting “beach” of some sea-shaped sandstone so I went down to the beach while Barbara climbed up the narrow staircase to the top on the lighthouse.

I found some neat blue starfish and took this shot, then looked around and they were everywhere.  So much for exclusivity!

But, being on the beach did allow for this shot of the lighthouse without the people walking about:

Michelle arrived late the next day, she drove from Michigan, a 23 hour drive. First priority for us then was to take the Central Coastal Drive over to the “Anne of Green Gables National Park, near Cavendish.

It took a while but I finally did manage to get a photo of the home called “Green Gables”, the only original structure on the site.

We did take a walk down “Lovers Lane”.  I did not read the book so am totally unfamiliar with all of the stuff around the site, but it was a nice, easy walk.

After seeing all we could see, and not buying anything in the gift shop, we went to see the site where the author of the Green Gable series is buried.  That is Michelle skulking behind the grave, making sure there are not witnesses so she can

see how much money has been left . . . I am not sure if it is still there though.
